How to use the time clock calculator
Enter your clock-in and clock-out times. Add any break time in minutes — this will be subtracted from the total. Optionally enter your hourly rate to calculate gross pay. Overtime (hours beyond 8 in a day) is paid at 1.5× the regular rate.
Overtime rules reference
In the US, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires overtime pay at 1.5× the regular rate for hours worked beyond 40 per week for non-exempt employees. Some states (like California) also require daily overtime for hours beyond 8 in a single day. Always check local labor laws.
FAQ
Does this handle overnight shifts?
Yes. If your clock-out time is earlier than your clock-in time, the calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight and adds 24 hours to the duration automatically.
How is overtime calculated?
Overtime is calculated as any hours beyond 8 in a single day. Those hours are multiplied by 1.5× the hourly rate. This is a daily overtime rule — weekly overtime (beyond 40h) is not tracked here.
